【tdr1681】アメリカンウォーターフロントのケープコッドの歴史とは
東京ディズニーシーのアメリカンウォーターフロント内にあるエリア「ケープコッド」
タラの缶詰が名産の小さな村ですが、その歴史はしっかりと用意されており、役場である「ケープコッド・クックオフ」に掲示されています。

Two British ship reached land within moments of each other in the year 1680.
The first was commanded by Captain Elias Winthrop,who immediately proclaimed this settlement the town of winthrop.
The second ship,under the command of Captain Joshua Bedford,declared this new territory Bedford Grove.
When neither could prevail upon the other to relinquish the land or its name,it was decided that a new name, acceptable to both, must be chosen.
Many names were put forth but, for one reason or another, soundly rejected.
Finally, an exasperaced woman in ihe crowd, who noticed the predominance of codfish in the water, shouted out, “Please, sirs, we are all ver hungry.Why nor call this place Cape Codde Village and be done with it?”
And so they did, and so it was and so it remains.
Over the years, Cape Codde Village has endured harsh wintexs, heavy stoxms,and devastating fires, buc our townspeople are nothing if not resilient.
We are proud of our “Yankee know-how” and our “never say die” attitude.
We pride ourselves on remaining a small township, and we are deservedly famous for our fishing traditions, our annual Fourth of July Cape Codde Cookoff, our stoic merchanrs and our unique handicrafts.
Though we benefit greatly from the visitors who come here, it is important to us that wepreserve our way of life.
Which is why we are fbnd of saying,”Come again when you can’t stay so long.”

「1680年、2隻の英国の船がこの土地にお互い間もなく到着しました。初めについたのはエリアスウィンスロップ船長。直ぐに入港を宣言しました。
2隻目の船はジョシュアベッドフォード船長。彼もこの新しい領土を「ベッドフォードグローブ」とする事を宣言しました。
しかし、どちらも自分の名前を主張し、誰も双方を説得する事ができず、両方が納得できる新しい名前を選ぶこととなりました。
多くの名前が出されましたが、様々な理由で却下。
最後に、怒った女性が水中を泳ぐタラの元気な様子に気づき、大声で言いました。「ねえ、私たちは、とってもおなかが減っているの！ もうこの場所を『ケープコッドヴィレッジ』と呼ばない？それにしましょ？」
そして彼らはその名で呼ぶ事にしました。
長年にわたり、ケープコッドヴィレッジは厳しい冬、激しい嵐、そして猛烈な火事に幾度と無く遭遇しましたが、私たち村民はずっと耐え続けてきました。
私たちは”ヤンキーのノウハウ”と”弱音を吐くな”という態度を誇りに思っています。
私たちはこの小さな村に誇りを持っています。そして私たちは伝統である漁業を重んじ、毎年7月4日に料理コンテストを開催し、ストイックな商人とユニークな手工芸でここに来る訪問客から大きな恩恵を受けています。
私たちが今のままの生活様式を守ることは私たちにとって大切な事です。だからこそ、私たちはこの格言が大好きです。
「あなたがそれほど長くいられない時は、もう一度来てくださいね。」
